Kete Aronui now open!
Nestled in the heart of Te Hoiere, our gallery space named Kete Aronui showcases the history, stories, and taonga of Ngāti Kuia. The name Kete Aronui refers to one of the three baskets of knowledge obtained by the god Tāne, the god of the forests and all that dwells within them. To obtain these baskets, Tāne ascended through the heavens to reach Io-matua-kore, the Supreme God, who granted his request. The kete aronui represents practical knowledge and understanding.
