Iwi Management Plan

Iwi Management Plan

In line with the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA), Ngāti Kuia is actively working towards the development of an Iwi Management Plan (IMP). This plan is a formal document that will guide the iwi in protecting and managing our natural and physical resources, ensuring that our values as kaitiaki are upheld. While the term "Iwi Management Plan" aligns with the legislative framework, our approach is guided by kaupapa Māori principles, specifically shaped through our Taiao Strategy.

At the heart of our planning is the drafting of a Taiao Strategy, which informs the creation of our Iwi Management Plan. The Taiao Strategy reflects the priorities and aspirations of Ngāti Kuia for our whenua, wai, and taonga. Informing how we engage with te Taiao through restorative outcomes.

Our Iwi Management Plan will be developed in consultation with local authorities, identifying key resource management issues and exploring opportunities for meaningful partnerships or shared responsibility. The plan will ensure our voice is at the forefront of environmental decisions affecting our rohe.

In addition to developing the Iwi Management Plan, our Taiao Roopū actively advocates for the outcomes of Ngāti Kuia’s five-year strategic plan. This includes making public submissions, influencing policy development, and implementing projects that reflect our kaitiakitanga. We are committed to protecting and nurturing our environment for generations to come, staying true to the values and tikanga of our iwi.
