Ngāti Kuia are the first people of Te Tauihu. We are the descendants of Māui, Kupe, and Matua Hautere. Te Runanga o Ngāti Kuia Trust is an iwi organisation with a proud history of giving back to the community, supporting the operation of our marae, and contributing to the restoration and well-being of te taiao and tāngata whenua.

Te Mahi | About the role
Ngāti Kuia is seeking a dedicated Kaitiaki Taiao – Kaiarotake to safeguard our whenua, taonga, and tikanga. This vital role involves:

Monitoring archaeological, environmental, and cultural activities

Protecting sites of significance and ensuring compliance with legal and cultural protocols

Collaborating with contractors, archaeologists, and iwi to uphold the mana of Ngāti Kuia

We’re looking for someone who is:

Culturally grounded in te ao Māori

Confident in karakia and tikanga on-site

Skilled in reporting, communication, and relationship management

Physically fit and tech-savvy

Committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and kaitiakitanga
Specifically, we are looking for individuals currently based in or near Mohua / Golden Bay and Whakatū / Nelson Bays.
